Originally released in 1975 on Island Records, HOKEY POKEY is Richard Thompson's third post-Fairport Convention album with his wife Linda Thompson, and a follow-up to 1974's I WANT TO SEE THE BRIGHT LIGHTS TONIGHT. This re-mastered edition contains two previously unreleased live performances: one from the Roundhouse in London on September 7, 1975 and one from Oxford Polytechnic on November 27, 1975, plus a BBC Radio One session recorded in London on February 11th, 1975. Chris Jones/BBC says: "HOKEY POKEY, recorded as the couple were beginning to explore Sufism, paints a rosier (and rockier) picture. Thompson seems more intent on blending Chuck Berry with the accordions and mandolins and the comedy element is upped with “Georgie On A Spree'' and ''Smiffy's Glass Eye.” However, as always, just below the surface is sex, death and obsession. ''A Heart Needs a Home” is probably Linda's loveliest performance and “I'll Regret It All In The Morning” showed how far Thompson was prepared to go in publicly expressing his unhappiness with human frailty.”
